Itinerary
Explore a day-by-day breakdown of your journey, thoughtfully crafted to ensure a seamless and enriching experience. Our tour plan highlights key destinations, activities, and experiences — giving you a clear picture of what to expect on each day of the trip.
Upon your arrival at Leh International Airport, you’ll be warmly greeted and transferred to your hotel by a representative. After check-in, take time to relax and unwind from your journey.
Perched at an altitude of 3,524 m (11,562 ft), Leh is the joint capital and largest city of Ladakh, a union territory of India. Once the historical capital of the Kingdom of Ladakh, it played a vital role for centuries as a key stopover on the ancient trade routes of the Indus Valley, connecting Tibet, Kashmir, India, and China.
Upon arrival, it is essential for all visitors to rest and acclimatize for the first 24 hours due to the high altitude. In the evening, if you’re feeling comfortable, you may take a gentle stroll through the charming lanes of Leh town. Dinner and overnight stay will be arranged at your hotel in Leh.
Overnight at the hotel
For early risers, the day begins with a truly special experience — the morning prayer session at Thiksey Monastery. Depart from your hotel at 06:00 AM with a packed breakfast to reach Thiksey (17 km / approx. 20 min) in time to witness the serene chanting of the resident monks. Afterward, enjoy your breakfast along with hot tea or coffee at the monastery café, surrounded by stunning views.
Post breakfast, drive to Hemis Monastery, one of the most renowned and largest monasteries in Ladakh. Later, continue to Stok Village, where you will explore the historic Stok Palace & Museum. Lunch will be a memorable affair with a local Ladakhi family — savoring authentic home-cooked dishes rarely found in restaurants today. Afterward, visit their 300-year-old traditional home, now converted into a private museum that reflects the region’s heritage.
On your return journey to Leh (12 km), stop at the Shey Palace, the former summer retreat of Ladakhi kings, and its charming gompa. Arrive back in Leh by evening for dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Uletokpo (85 km / approx. 3 hrs). En route, visit the historic Spituk Monastery, marvel at the fascinating natural phenomenon of the Magnetic Hill, and explore Likir Monastery, home to one of the largest open-air statues of Maitreya Buddha.
Continue your journey with a stop at the 1,000-year-old Alchi Monastery, famous for its ancient murals and exquisite artwork. Arrive at Uletokpo around lunchtime.
In the afternoon, set out on a two-hour hike to Mangyu Village, a hidden gem surrounded by serene landscapes. On arrival, visit a local household and enjoy evening tea and snacks while engaging with the family. Spend time learning about their livelihood and traditional way of life.
Return to Uletokpo for dinner and an overnight stay.
After breakfast, drive to the iconic Lamayuru Monastery (40 km / approx. 1 hr.), one of the oldest and most picturesque monasteries in Ladakh. After exploring the monastery, begin your return journey to Leh (120 km / approx. 3 hrs).
On the way, stop to meet a local Amchi — a traditional healer who practices one of the world’s oldest and most well-documented systems of medicine. Rooted in Tibetan and Ayurvedic principles, Amchi healing relies mainly on local Himalayan herbs and plants, combined with spiritual understanding of health and balance. For centuries, Amchis have provided free medical care to people in Ladakh’s remote villages, where modern healthcare remains limited.
While this ancient practice faces challenges from modernization and loss of traditional knowledge, many Amchis are dedicated to preserving and promoting this sustainable, holistic medical system for future generations.
Arrive in Leh by evening. Relax at your hotel, followed by dinner and an overnight stay in Leh.
After breakfast, drive to Choglamsar village for a visit to a Pashmina factory. Ladakh takes great pride in being the birthplace of Pashmina, one of the finest and most luxurious fabrics in the world. This rare wool comes from the Changthang region of Eastern Ladakh, where nomadic herders raise Pashmina goats in some of the harshest climates on earth. Known for its ultra-fine fibers, Ladakh Pashmina has, over time, been traded to Kashmir, where it is traditionally spun and woven into exquisite products — giving rise to the globally recognized name “Cashmere.”
Today, Ladakh has the potential to create its own identity for Pashmina as a sustainable, eco-friendly, and truly local brand, much like its reputation as a hub for snow leopard conservation and responsible tourism. A visit to the factory allows you to witness the delicate craftsmanship and heritage behind this treasured fabric.
Later, return to Leh for a heritage walk through Old Leh Town. The walk begins at Chutay Rantak, once home to traditional water mills used for grinding barley into flour. Built in the early 17th century by the Baltis (a Muslim community with Tibetan roots), these mills supplied flour to the residents of Leh. Nearby, the aroma of freshly baked bread fills the air at the famous bakers’ street, believed to have been established by Kashmiris due to its proximity to the mill.
The area also holds spiritual significance — a 400-year-old tree called Gtsug Tor, believed to have been planted by Lama Stagtsang Raspa, founder of Hemis Monastery, still stands here. The Sikh community maintains it today as Datun Sahib, associated with Guru Nanak.
As you continue through the narrow alleys, you’ll pass centuries-old homes, gompas, mosques, and heritage buildings, each with its own story to tell. Highlights include the now-defunct oldest cinema house in Leh, Chhang Street where women once sold barley beer, and shops still selling gonchas and traditional Ladakhi attire. The walk concludes at Jama Masjid, the historic mosque marking the entrance to Old Town.
Enjoy a traditional Ladakhi-Tibetan lunch at the famous Tibetan Kitchen Restaurant on Fort Road, one of Leh’s most beloved culinary spots.
Post-lunch, spend time exploring the vibrant Leh Main Market — your last chance to shop for souvenirs. The market buzzes with life and offers everything from handcrafted Pashmina shawls and traditional jewellery to dried fruits, spices, and local street food. Wandering through the stalls gives you a true glimpse into the daily life of Ladakhis, making it the perfect way to end your journey.
You will be transferred to the International airport to board your flight back home, carrying with you unforgettable memories of India’s rich heritage, majestic architecture, and vibrant culture.
