Itinerary
Explore a day-by-day breakdown of your journey, thoughtfully crafted to ensure a seamless and enriching experience. Our tour plan highlights key destinations, activities, and experiences — giving you a clear picture of what to expect on each day of the trip.
Arrive at Leh Airport. You will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel.
Leh, perched at an altitude of 3,524 m (11,562 ft), is the joint capital and largest city of Ladakh, India’s northernmost union territory. Once the historic capital of the Kingdom of Ladakh, it was for centuries a vital stop on the trade routes along the Indus Valley connecting Tibet, Kashmir, India, and China.
Upon arrival, it is essential to rest and allow your body to acclimatize to the high altitude. We recommend complete rest for the first 24 hours. In the evening, should you feel comfortable, you may enjoy a gentle walk through Leh town.
Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Leh.
If you are an early riser, begin your day with a serene experience at Thiksey Monastery, joining the resident monks for their morning prayer session. To attend on time, you’ll depart the hotel by 6:00 AM with a packed breakfast. After the prayers, enjoy your breakfast along with hot tea or coffee at the monastery café, surrounded by peaceful mountain views.
Afterwards, drive to Hemis Monastery, one of Ladakh’s most renowned and revered monasteries. From here, continue to Stok Village, where you will explore the Stok Palace & Museum. Lunch will be hosted by a local family, giving you the rare opportunity to savor authentic Ladakhi cuisine—dishes that are increasingly hard to find in Leh today. After lunch, step inside their 300-year-old ancestral home, now lovingly preserved as a private museum.
On your return to Leh (12 kms), stop at Shey Palace, once the summer residence of the kings of Ladakh, and explore its small yet charming gompa.
Arrive back in Leh by evening for dinner and an overnight stay at your hotel.
After breakfast, begin your journey to Uletokpo. En route, visit Spituk Monastery, the intriguing Magnetic Hill, and Likir Monastery, home to one of the largest open-air statues of Maitreya Buddha.
Continue your drive with a stop at the 1,000-year-old Alchi Monastery, famous for its exquisite wall paintings and ancient architecture. Arrive in Uletokpo around lunchtime.
In the afternoon, set out on a scenic hike to Mangyu Village (approx. 2 hrs one way). On arrival, visit a local household where you’ll be warmly welcomed with evening tea and snacks. Spend quality time with the family, learning about their livelihood, traditions, and the simple yet rich way of life in Ladakh.
Return to Uletokpo for dinner and an overnight stay.
After breakfast, drive from Uletokpo to Beema, a scenic journey through the heart of the Himalayas. The route unfolds with dramatic landscapes, charming villages, and vibrant monasteries, each reflecting the deep-rooted cultural heritage of Ladakh.
Your destination, the Aryan Valley—historically known as the Dah Hanu region—offers a rare cultural encounter. Home to the Brokpa tribe, this valley is celebrated for its people’s distinct features, colorful floral headgear, and unique traditions. The Brokpas are believed to be descendants of an ancient Aryan race, possibly even soldiers of Alexander the Great, and have preserved a way of life largely untouched by outside influence.
Arrive at Beema village and check into your resort. In the evening, enjoy a guided walk through the village, offering an intimate glimpse into Brokpa culture and daily life. Conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast, drive to the iconic Lamayuru Monastery (110 km / ~3 hrs), one of the oldest and most picturesque monasteries in Ladakh, dramatically set against rugged mountains. After your visit, continue the journey back to Leh (120 km / ~3 hrs).
En route, stop to meet a local Amchi—a traditional physician and custodian of Ladakh’s ancient healing system. The Amchis possess deep knowledge of Himalayan herbs, local climatic conditions, and the spiritual dimensions of healing. For centuries, they have provided free medical care to communities in remote villages where modern healthcare remains scarce.
The Amchi medical tradition, rooted in Tibetan Ayurveda, is one of the world’s oldest documented systems of medicine, relying primarily on plant-based remedies. Though it faces challenges from modernization and globalization, many Amchis continue to preserve and practice this sustainable, holistic approach to health.
Arrive in Leh by evening and relax at your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Leh.
After an early breakfast at the resort, bid farewell to your gracious hosts at Nimmu House and begin the mesmerizing journey to Nubra Valley, tracing a historic stretch of the ancient Silk Route.
The route takes you across the legendary Khardung La Pass (5,359 m), celebrated as one of the world’s highest motorable passes. Strategically important and awe-inspiring in scale, the pass is flanked by towering mountains and offers panoramic views that captivate adventure seekers, bikers, and travelers alike.
Arrive at your resort in Nubra Valley, where a delightful farm-to-table lunch awaits, lovingly prepared by the chefs using fresh local produce. After some time to relax, set out on a short drive and hike to the enchanting Hunder Sand Dunes (7 km).
Hunder is famed for its surreal landscape—silver-white sand dunes set against barren mountains—and for the rare Bactrian (double-humped) camels. These hardy animals, once vital to trade caravans along the Silk Route, have adapted uniquely to Ladakh’s high-altitude desert. A gentle camel ride across the dunes, with poplar trees swaying nearby and the Shyok River murmuring in the distance, makes for an unforgettable experience. As the sun sets, watch the barren mountains transform under a canvas of crimson hues, leaving you with a scene of almost otherworldly beauty.
Return to your resort for dinner, enjoyed beneath the vast, star-studded Ladakhi sky.
Dinner and overnight stay in Nubra
After an early breakfast, drive to Sumur village (60 km) and begin a short hike to the enchanting Yarab Tso Lake. Often referred to as “the hidden lake”, Yarab Tso is one of Nubra’s best-kept secrets. A gentle 20-minute uphill walk leads you to this serene lake, its crystal-clear waters perfectly reflecting the surrounding rocky hills. Nestled in silence, it is a place of peace and spiritual calm—an experience few travelers get to witness.
Continue your exploration with a visit to Nubra’s largest petroglyph site, scattered between Sasoma and Degar/Tangyer. These ancient rock engravings—remnants of the historic Silk Route connecting Srinagar, Leh, and Yarkand—depict ibex, wild sheep, camels, horses, hunters, dancers, musical instruments, and early stupas. Fashioned in a naturalistic style, the engravings range from small delicate figures to large bold motifs, offering a fascinating glimpse into the life, beliefs, and artistry of ancient Ladakh.
Enjoy a picnic lunch near the dunes, surrounded by dramatic landscapes.
Later, visit the rarely explored Charasa village, once the winter palace of the kings of Ladakh. The ruins of this majestic fort-palace still stand, framed by the Siachen River on one side and rows of ancient stupas on the other. Known for its rich iron ore soil, Charasa once supplied iron to the entire Ladakh region—its name literally meaning “village of iron soil”. Remote and rarely visited, this village feels like stepping back in time.
For those interested, you may also choose to soak in the natural hot springs of Panamik, famed for their therapeutic qualities.
Return to your resort in the evening for dinner and a cozy bonfire under a star-studded Ladakhi sky.
Dinner and overnight stay in Nubra.
After breakfast, depart for the stunning Pangong Lake (14,500 ft) via the scenic Shyok River Valley. This breathtaking drive of around 180 km takes you through dramatic landscapes, leading to one of the most spectacular natural wonders on the planet.
On arrival, spend time soaking in the beauty of Pangong Tso, famous for its surreal color-changing waters. Visit the spot where the film 3 Idiots was shot, then enjoy leisure time by the lakeside, watching the sunset paint the mountains and water in shades of gold and crimson.
Dinner and overnight stay at a camp or resort by the lake.
After breakfast, set out on an adventurous drive from Pangong Tso to Tso Moriri, a less-traveled route that reveals Ladakh’s untouched wilderness. The journey passes through the quaint villages of Man and Merak, the historic Chushul War Memorial, and the challenging Kaksang La Pass. En route, marvel at the serene beauty of Yaya Tso Lake, before continuing past Mahe, Sumdo, and Kyagar Tso to finally reach Tso Moriri.
Situated in the remote Changthang Plateau, Tso Moriri Lake is a breathtaking high-altitude lake and part of the Tso Moriri Wetland Conservation Reserve, recognized as a Ramsar site of international ecological importance. The area teems with wildlife—from migratory birds like bar-headed geese and black-necked cranes to mammals such as the Tibetan gazelle, great Tibetan sheep, and the Tibetan wild ass (kiang). With luck, one may even spot elusive predators like the snow leopard, Tibetan wolf, or red fox roaming the surrounding mountains.
Enjoy the tranquility of this pristine setting, where nature’s grandeur is at its peak.
Dinner and overnight stay at a fixed camp near the lake.
After breakfast, check out from the camp and begin your drive to the striking Tso Kar Lake, located about 60 km from Tso Moriri. Known as the “White Lake” because of the salt deposits along its shores, Tso Kar sits at an altitude of 15,280 ft and leaves visitors spellbound with its raw, otherworldly beauty. The surrounding wetlands are also a haven for birdwatchers, especially during migration season when black-necked cranes and other species nest here.
Continue your journey towards Leh, rejoining the Manali–Leh Highway and crossing the dramatic Tanglang La Pass (5,328 m / 17,480 ft)—one of Ladakh’s highest and most spectacular motorable passes. The breathtaking views and sheer adventure of the crossing make this an unforgettable highlight of the journey.
Arrive in Leh by evening and check into your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Leh.
After breakfast, set out for Choglamsar village to visit a Pashmina factory. It is a matter of pride that Ladakh produces some of the world’s finest pashmina, sourced from hardy Changthangi goats raised by nomadic herders on the windswept Changthang Plateau. Known for its exceptional fineness, Ladakh’s pashmina is the origin of what the world now calls “cashmere.” While much of it has traditionally been woven in Kashmir, there is growing recognition of Ladakh’s unique heritage in creating a truly eco-friendly, sustainable, and globally distinctive brand of pashmina.
Later, return to Leh for a fascinating heritage walk through Old Leh Town.
The walk begins at Chutay Rantak, named after the traditional water mills once used to grind roasted barley flour. Here you’ll also encounter Bakers’ Street, where Kashmiri settlers introduced bread-making centuries ago, and the air is still filled with the aroma of freshly baked bread. Another highlight is the ancient Gtsug Tor tree, linked to local legends and later sanctified by Guru Nanak, now revered as Datun Sahib.
Wandering through the labyrinth of old lanes, you’ll pass centuries-old homes, mosques, and gompas—each structure with stories etched into its weathered walls. Highlights include Ladakh’s first cinema house (now defunct), Chhang Street, once a lively hub for local barley beer, traditional dress shops, and the historic Jama Masjid, which marks the end of the walk at Leh’s bustling main market.
Enjoy a traditional Ladakhi-Tibetan lunch at the well-loved Tibetan Kitchen restaurant on Fort Road.
In the afternoon, spend time browsing Leh Market, the vibrant commercial heart of the city. Here, stalls and shops overflow with handcrafted pashmina shawls, jewelry, dried fruits, thangka paintings, traditional attire, and colorful souvenirs—perfect keepsakes to take home. Beyond shopping, the market offers a lively atmosphere and a final chance to mingle with the locals before concluding your Ladakh journey.
